Student, 13, Found With Marijuana At Navua School

Parents need to be more vigilant on things their children are exposed to, their associations and activities, says Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho.
His comments come after a 13-year-old student was caught by teachers with marijuana in his possession at a school in Navua.

The student was taken to Police by teachers, where he told officers that he found the dried leaves in his village.
Police have decided not to publicise the name of the village.
Officers then escorted the student to his village where they spoke with village elders and his parents.
“Children are at a vulnerable age where they will try and experiment with things that they see others doing without understanding the consequences of what they are doing,” Brigadier-General Qiliho said.
“The child in this case we are hoping will have learned a lesson, but children need constant guidance and that can only be possible if par- ents prioritise time with them.”
