A 20-year-old student died after allegedly being electrocuted at his dormitory at Monfort Boy’s Town, Veisari, outside Lami last Wednesday evening.

Watisoni Vunivi Junior was a first-year student from Ba studying Cabinet Making.

School principal Brother Jim Madavana confirmed Mr Vunivi Jr had gone outside of the dormitory to hang his clothes but did not know that the clothesline was connected to a night lamp.

“There was probably a short circuit from the night lamp which then shocked him,” Brother Madavana said.

“By the time we saw him, he was lying on the ground unconscious; we then rushed him to the Lami Health Centre where attempts to revive him were futile.”

The family have reserved their comments as they mourn for the loss of their child.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wame Bautolu confirmed there was no police report filed in this matter.
