The emergence of Kopen substance, commonly known as ‘flipflops,’ is raising alarm. It was discovered in the possession of a minor at a local school.

The substance consists grinded suki, mixed with turpentine or rum. When placed between the lower lip and teeth, it causes dizziness as it slowly releases its juices.

Outgoing Permanent Secretary for Education Timoci Bure confirmed that a report was received by the Ministry yesterday.

Director Narcotics Bureau SSP Serupepeli Neiko said the Fiji Police Force’s Narcotics Bureau was aware of the matter and had visited the family and the school of the victim together with other support units from the Criminal Investigations Headquarters.
