Bible characters came to life at Andrews Primary School in Nadi as students staged an Easter drama depicting the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Teachers, parents and invited guests watched in silence as children, dressed in biblical costumes, illustrated how Jesus was betrayed, tried and crucified.

Though no one present had witnessed the events of Calvary, the students’ portrayal painted a vivid picture of the suffering Christians believe Jesus endured.

The re-enactment formed part of the school’s Easter celebrations, reminding the audience of the meaning behind the Christian observance.

Officiating at the event, Radini Talatala Sereseini Bula of Rock Church Fiji, who is also a retired headteacher of Andrews Primary School, said the cross was not merely a tragic event in history but a divine act of love and redemption.

“The Bible says in Isaiah 53: ‘He was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed,’” Ms Bula said.

“So the cross was not a tragedy; it was a transaction. We believe as Christians that sin was paid in full because we were headed to destruction and there had to be somebody to pay the price.”

Ms Bula reminded those gathered that Easter carries a message of hope for all.

“That is why we have the hope of redemption. Not only redeemed, but we have the promise of eternal life,” she said, referencing John 3:16.

She said the resurrection assures believers that death is not the end.

“The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus. Resurrection is our hope because he rose again. Easter is not only about eternity; it is about transformation.”

The celebration ended with prayers and songs, reinforcing the message that new life and renewed faith remain central to Easter.
