Transitioning from a science background to accounting and economics was no easy feat for 21-year-old Sanskar Kapadia.
Yet, his determination and resilience paid off when he, alongside Kamal Prasad and Fatima Siddeqa, received the Most Outstanding Accounting and Finance Student (Department) Award 2024 at the University of Fiji School of Business and Economics ceremony in Lautoka last week.
"It wasn't easy to shift to a completely new field, and I struggled with concepts I was unfamiliar with," Mr Kapadia said.

With support from lecturers and a commitment to consistent effort, he gradually built confidence. Balancing academics with career preparation presented another hurdle.
"Managing deadlines, assignments, and preparing for the future wasn't straightforward," he said.
"I stayed organised, set clear priorities, and worked part-time after classes, making the most of my time."
These experiences, he added, taught him resilience and adaptability.
Striving despite the odds Ba native Kamal Prasad shared her own journey of overcoming challenges in student life.
"The motivation comes from my mother, who always says that to achieve something, we must strive for it," she said.
Financial difficulties, particularly with transport costs, were among her struggles.
"My father was my biggest support, always assisting me in every way," she noted.
With the collective help of her friend Ruqayyah Hakim, she overcame academic hurdles and embraced her journey with determination.
A legacy of inspiration
For Nadi Muslim College's 2021 dux, Fatima Aiyesha Siddeqa, the sacrifices of her mother and grandmother were a driving force.
"I never wanted their efforts to go to waste," she said.
Success, to Ms Siddeqa, is more than personal achievements.
"It's about leaving a legacy wherever I go. As the eldest daughter, I've always aspired to make my family proud."
Her aunt, a constant source of inspiration and her best friend, has been a key figure in her journey.
"Success is seeing my aunt, grandparents, and mother smile with pride at my accomplishments," she said.
