Students Reminded By PM To Sing National Anthem With Pride

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama was compelled to remind students and teachers of the importance of singing the national anthem.

This was during the official opening of six classrooms at Lekutu Secondary School in Bua on Thursday.

After the traditional welcome was accorded to him, the PM stood up and walked a few metres to the tent where the students were sitting.

He asked 20 teachers to join the 230 students and told them to sing the national anthem.

He told them that he found many students not singing and neither standing properly as the Noble Banner Blue was sung.

“You sing not for only yourself, but for your parents, your teachers and the vanua,” Mr Bainimarama told the students.

He pointed to the national flag and said: “Re­spect the flag, respect your parents, respect your teachers and sing with pride.”

Patriotism

He explained to the students the meaning of Fiji’s national anthem and how to sing it with pride.

“You can be good leaders of tomorrow, you may replace me, the Government officials and those standing around here,” he said.
