A Tailevu resident has called for Circuit Stewards to be recognised and supported through Fiji's Constitution, saying their service to church communities deserves formal recognition.

Eremasi Naitini of Vatani, Kaba, made the submission during the Constitution Review consultation at Daku Community Hall in Buretu.

Mr Naitini said Circuit Stewards provided an important service to communities and deserved formal recognition and financial support.

He said many Circuit Stewards spent years assisting churches and communities, often without receiving any form of payment.

“I want to see Circuit Stewards recognised in the Constitution and paid by the Government,” he said.

“They serve the people, support church activities and help communities whenever there is a need. Their contribution should not go unnoticed.”

Mr Naitini said Circuit Stewards often dedicated a significant amount of their time to serving others while balancing family and personal responsibilities.

“Many of them sacrifice their own time and resources to help others. They continue to serve because of their commitment, but there should also be support for the work they do,” he said.

He said government assistance would not only recognise their efforts but also strengthen the role they play within communities across the country.

Mr Naitini ended his submission with the words: “Oira na italai ni Kalou, sa mai vua na Kalou.

The nationwide consultations are continuing and are expected to help shape recommendations on Fiji’s constitutional future.
