THREE civilians are in Police custody and one has been charged for allegedly throwing in contrabands into the Suva Remand Center in the past few days.

The incident has prompted the  Fiji  Corrections  Service to send out another stern warning that those throwing in illegal items into Prison walls for their inmate friends likely join them in the near future.

“Almost 80 percent of people involved in these illegal throw-ins have been caught and taken in to join their friends, but still people do not learn,’’ said Deputy Commissioner of Corrections Senior Superintendent Apakuki Qura.

Last week,  a  suspect was apprehended by Police after he was identified via  CCTV cameras throwing in illegal items over the Suva Remand Center walls. He has since been charged and is already behind bars.

Yesterday afternoon, another two suspects were taken into custody at the Totogo Police Station after their vehicle was identified by CCTV tossing contraband over the Remand Center walls.

FCS personnel working inside the perimeter fence quickly confiscated a sock packed with 16 rolls of suki, 13 rolls of marijuana and a phone charger.

The Fiji Police Force was informed of the incident and given the details from the

CCTV footage.

SSUPT Qura is pleading with members of the public to refrain from such acts as they are not helping those who are already incarcerated and whom we are trying to rehabilitate.

Police are now conducting their investigations for yesterday’s incident
