Tabuya Engages Lawyers To Deal With FNUSA Statement

People’s Alliance Party member Lynda Tabuya says she has engaged her lawyers to legally deal with the statement made by the President of the Fiji National University Student Association (FNUSA).

The former SODELPA MP said the statement by FNUSA contained derogatory and unsubstantiated statements against her, labelling herself as a cyberbully.

In a statement issued on January 28 by FNUSA, President Ketan Lal said that Ms Tabuya made derogatory remarks in a personal video that was posted on a fake troll page managed by a fake account.

Ms Tabuya’s comment on the video online was “Same student who complained to FNU about my first cousin Etu Tuqota for filming me at an event, failed in that attempt but definitely an FFP stooge!”

In the statement, Mr Lal said: “This is both surprising and concerning because Lynda Tabuya openly claims to fight for the rights of youth and workers, yet here she can be seen participating in cyberbullying and, in fact, has become a cyberbully herself. Well, a true leader defends the rights of all, regardless of whether they agree with their beliefs or not.”

In response, Ms Tabuya said the term cyberbullying was now legally defined in the law.

“To use this term against me is defamatory, when the association has not even proven the case as such, by lodging a proper complaint to the Online Safety Commission and having a determination made in a court of law accordingly.”
