SODELPA acting general secretary Viliame Takayawa has confirmed that he is among five applicants vying for the party’s substantive general secretary role.

Speaking to this masthead last night, Mr Takayawa revealed that the matter was discussed at the SODELPA Management Board meeting on Friday.

“I am the acting general secretary until the Management Board makes the substantive appointment later this month,” Mr Takayawa said.

He also highlighted that other key positions within the party remain vacant, including the role of treasurer.

When asked whether he was aware of who the other applicants were, Mr Takayawa declined to disclose any names.

“We will make the announcement in due course, but right now the Secretariat is trying to fill in these vacant posts,” he said.

In May, SODELPA announced it was seeking a new general secretary to serve as the administrative head and spokesperson for the party.

Applications for the position closed on May 29, 2025.
