Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge Reconstruction Cost Increases to $14.2m
The grant has increased by FJ$14.2 million primarily to address unforeseen price escalations encountered during the project’s execution.

Government has endorsed the execution of the amended Grant Agreement with the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the reconstruction of the two phase Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge project in Suva.
This decision was made at the 10th Cabinet meeting last week.
JICA is supporting the reconstruction of the Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge with a two-phase grant approach.

The objective of the project is to strengthen resilience of a main road to natural disasters by reconstructing the bridge.
The grant has increased by FJ$14.2 million primarily to address unforeseen price escalations encountered during the project’s execution.
The project’s budget has increased from FJ$43.4 million to FJ$57.6 million.
Fiji Roads Authority will continue to be the executing agency responsible for implementing and ensuring the completion of the project on behalf of the Fiji Government.
Phase I
It will focus on an in-depth evaluation of the site, gathering relevant engineering and construction information to ensure that the bridge will serve communities and businesses as a resilient national infrastructure against natural disasters.
Phase II
It will ensure progression and secure financial resources for the completion of the bridge construction, as part of ongoing bilateral cooperation between Fiji and Japan.
