Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has urged general practitioners in Tavua to submit their expression of interest for the engagement of additional private doctors.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum made the remarks in Tavua on Saturday night.
He said the scheme not only worked – “it is a game-changer for Fijians who depend fully on the public health system for General Outpatient Services”.

After receiving a great deal of positive feedback Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said they were excited to announce that they will be expanding the private GP programme.
He said this partnership will ease the burden on public medical facilities and grant patients access to high-quality healthcare in a quicker way without waiting in long queues.
The initiative is also an opportunity for GPs to grow their patient base and support the public health system in providing the necessary medical care to Fijians.
“We recently advertised for the private doctor visitation in various towns and cities and we are calling GP’s in Tavua to participate,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.
“This is the type of relationship we are trying to develop with the private sector, on how we can improve the services that are available to members of the public.
“And their collaboration is critically important, in particular now after the pandemic where there are a number of challenges by all countries in the world.”
He added they would be engaging the services of additional private medical general practitioners to offer services to Fijians in the following areas.
