Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission Chief Executive Officer Joel Abraham said the major reason for the proposed fare increase by the industry was the increase in fuel prices and cost of spare parts.
“They have also asked for an increase in taxi fares due to an increase in the cost of repair and maintenance and increase in wages,” Mr Abraham said.
He said there had been no increase in taxi fares for more than 10 years and the market dynamics had changed significantly.
Mr Abraham has invited the public to provide their views on the submissions received.
All submissions in writing are to be sent via email or box.
All submissions must reach FCC officers no later than 4pm on July 13, 2022.
