The 46-year-old Nadi taxi driver who allegedly killed his pregnant partner over the weekend was denied bail yesterday.

The court heard that on April 27, 2025, the accused allegedly had an argument with his partner, during which he struck her on the lower side of the head and neck with a cane knife, causing fatal injuries.
The victim died at the scene.
Police say their three children were at home and witnessed the incident.
The woman was believed to be 31 weeks pregnant.
Police prosecutor Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Parmesh Chand objected to bail as the accused had other pending cases, which were still under investigation.
Magistrate Babitu asked the accused if he wanted to be represented by a Legal Aid lawyer, to which he responded that he would represent himself.
“Legal lawyers won’t be able to represent me because all my cases, they couldn’t talk on my behalf, I did all talking in court,” the accused told the magistrate.
Since the charge is serious, Magistrate Babitu advised the accused to seek legal representation.
The case was adjourned to May 14.
