Taxi Drivers Laud Curfew Change

Taxi drivers in Viti Levu have commended the Government for the change of curfew hours that was effective from yesterday.

They said the change in curfew hours from 7pm – 4am gives them an extra hour to earn more income.

Suva taxi driver, Uraia Jeke said the second wave of COVID-19 in Fiji had affected his earnings, but the recent curfew announcement provides him another hour of driving and earning a little more for his family.

“I hope that everything will get back to normal as soon as possible. This will only be possible if people get vaccinated and adhere to the advisories from the Ministry of Health,” Mr Jeke said.

Mr Jeke was taking home $20 a day and at times what he earned was only enough for fuel, but with the 7pm curfew, he hoped to get more money.

Vakabale street taxi driver in Lautoka, Samuel George said the 7pm curfew would boost their business as they could drive until 6.30pm.

Nadi taxi driver Muni Dewan said the extension of curfew hours to 7pm was great news to him.

“The extension of the curfew hours to 7pm is good news for us and we are hoping it can be extended to 8pm. This one-hour extension might help increase our income,” Mr Dewan said.

Fiji Taxi Association President Raben Singh shared similar sentiments.
