Taxi operators have a choice whether to calibrate their taxi metre to adjust to the new fare or not.
This was the outcome of a meeting by the Fijian Competition & Consumer Commission (FCCC) and the Fiji Taxi Association yesterday.
This was after the FCCC announced changes in the taxi flagfall and waiting charges last week.

FCCC Chief Executive Officer Joel Abraham met with the association yesterday where the matter was clarified.
The meeting was also confirmed by Mr Abraham.
Fiji Taxi Association general secretary Ashwin Lal said there were concerns raised by members of the association on the high cost of calibrating metres to adjust to the new fare.
“If anyone wants to do it they can and if they do not then it’s entirely up to them that was discussed in the meeting today,” Mr Lal said.
“This is also not the finalised fare, we will be calling for a tender for the calibration of meters and then we will choose on who to be calibrating the taxi meters when the fare is finalised,” he said.
“Before the announcement of the new fares we will call for a tender on who to calibrate the meters. At the moment we are being charged $50 to $60 for the calibration of the metres.”
