The Land Transport Authority of Fiji (LTA) reminds taxis designated to operate in specific zones in Nadi, Lautoka and other western areas that it is illegal for them to operate in Suva.

This comes after complaints were received regarding non-Suva designated taxis operating in Suva, as well as Licensed Hire and Rental vehicles operating as taxis.

“Taxi permits are issued with several considerations in mind, including traffic congestion and ensuring that Fijians have taxi services available in their specific local areas,” said LTA chief executive officer, Samuel Simpson.

“Not only do these taxis add to the traffic congestion in Suva, but they also deprive Suva-based taxi operators of revenue which they are lawfully entitled. Out of area taxis operating elsewhere is illegal.”

Nadi and Lautoka taxis have distinctive coloured taxi plates, blue for the Western Division.

“In addition to not using out of area taxis, we advise the public to not use a Licensed Hire or rental vehicle being used as an illegal taxi, anywhere, as well as illegal “white plate” private cars being used as taxis,” added Mr Simpson.

LTA was established to provide a safe land transport system for the nation in partnership with stakeholders, the Fijian Government and the community.
