There is a possibility that Tropical Cyclone Seru will bring more flash floods, warns Commissioner Northern Uraia Rainima.

During a press conference at Macuata House in Labasa yesterday, he advised Northerners to start preparing now.

According to an initial damage assessment of the recent Tropical Cyclone Rae, he said some areas were still underwater, while others were taking time to recover.

"Cyclone Seru, striking within the next few days, will pose further threats," Mr Rainima said.

"The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA)and other agencies are still working on repairing roads and crossings that went underwater.

"They are doing their best to restore normalcy," he added.

"We've been warned of heavy rainfall, and I hope that the areas already affected by Cyclone Rae will be spared."

He confirmed that he had met with relevant stakeholders to address flash flood concerns in low-lying areas within Labasa town.

"We mainly discussed the roads, drains, and drainage systems in town, which tend to flood after prolonged rainfall," he said.

"We agreed that some areas in Labasa need better drainage.

"So, we are working on improvements this week, and early next week.

"You should see progress on these exit points."
