TC Yasa: Home Assessment-1500 Destroyed, 6000 Damaged

Tropical Cyclone Yasa assessment has revealed that 1500 homes were destroyed while 6000 damaged, Commissioner Northern Uraia Rainima said yesterday.

He said the assessment completed on Sunday was done by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF).

Mr Rainima said based on this assessment now 80 evacuation centers are active in the north.

“From 107 it has dropped to 80 and from 80 there are 68 schools,” he said.

“The provincial administrators are asked to visit each of these schools and clear the schools before January 11.

He said now they were distributing rations to individual homes in the provinces of Bua, Macuata, and Cakaudrove.

“Part of the ration is also distributed to outside the red zone area as some homes are identified to be damaged.

He said the water authority was also on the ground to supply water to the community people. The two concern areas in the lists are Wainunu and Lekutu Bua.

‘There are 41 trucks doing water carting to these areas.

He added all the roads on the island were accessible except for Daria, the road which was underwater again because of the heavy rain.
