The Island of Kadavu has always held a special place in Waisea Lalanabaravi’s heart.

The 39-year-old visually impaired teacher is known there among the nearby villages, having returned to the island to teach at Vabea Primary School, not fair from Dravuni Village.

“Dravuni is my home away from home,” Mr Lalanabaravi said.

He had previously taught at Ucuiwai District School in Keteiwai Moala in Lau.

“I love working here in Kadavu because my first posting was here and I connect very well with people here and students here.

“There’s a lot of income generating sources here, compared to any other place in Fiji.

Mr Lalanabaravi added that some of the difficulties he faced in Dravuni water and supplies from mainland.

He has assisted in many village projects and has his own initiative, which is an idea to make solar panels to provide electricity for schools.

“I wanted to give back to the village, so I started with the solar in 2016, he said.

“I am happy now that the Government has stepped in through the Department of Energy and Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development.”
