In an effort to encourage 20 students at Labasa Muslim College to complete their education, a teacher went out of his way to provide stationery in preparation for 2024 academic year.
The students are in Year 9 and 10 who rep- resented the school in the under-15 in the Fiji Secondary Schools Football Championship in August.
Unfortunately, the team lost in the final against Labasa College by one goal.

Their coach and teacher, Atul Sharma said two students dropped out of school and started doing odd jobs in Labasa Town.
“Since the Ministry of Education has taken the initiative to address the rising concern over student dropout rates, I decided to share an idea with my principal to bring about holistic development,” he said.
They organised an awards ceremony last Wednesday at school to thank the 20 students for their participation and at the same time ease their burden of buying school stationery.
College principal Shanil Dutt was delighted with the assistance.
“Holistic development of a child is very important and we want to see our students, be it academic or sports, to do their best,” Mr Sharma said.
“It was a timely assistance as these students received this award before their annual examination as a moral boost to do better.”
