The payment for the qualification upgrades of 395 teachers will be made in two instalments-50 per cent before Christmas and the remainder in January, according to Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro.

Speaking at the Fiji Teachers Registration Authority (FTRA) and Ministry of Education Annual Congress 2024 at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in Denarau yesterday, Mr Radrodro reaffirmed the Government's commitment to supporting educators.

Under the theme Transforming Education: Closing Gaps, Connecting Minds, Shaping Tomorrow, Mr Radrodro highlighted the ministry's push to ensure teachers receive the benefits they are entitled to this year.

"It will be paid to you, alongside location allowances, step-ups, and the regularisation of posts."

Mr Radrodro also announced that 103 assistant principals would receive a step-up to distinguish them from heads of departments.

"These incentives are crucial to recognising the efforts of teachers in Fiji and ensuring we retain your professional skills for the development of our education sector and the learning abilities of our students, who need you to be here in Fiji," he added.

He said the Coalition Government was committed to building a robust educational framework through investment. Addressing heads of schools, he acknowledged their tireless efforts, saying: "Your impact reverberates far beyond the walls of our schools."

As discussions at the MOE and FTRA Annual Congress 2024 continued, Mr Radrodro called for meaningful collaboration: "Let us engage in meaningful discourse, share best practices, and chart a course that uplifts our profession  and elevates the educational experiences of our students."

He expressed hope that the congress would foster unity among educators and empower them to prepare students for future challenges.

"By sharing experiences, exchanging ideas, and learning from each other, we can create a strong community that drives change and progress in education," he said.
