The Fiji Teachers Union is encouraging parents to review their children’s previous academic progress and set achievable goals for the new academic year.
As parents and guardians prepare their children for the new school year, FTU general secretary Muniappa Goundar said support and encouragement from home is important.
“Their active support and encouragement at home are key to their children’s success at school,” Mr Goundar said.

Mr Goundar added that the new academic year is ana exciting time for school children hence preparation is important.
He urges parents to not wait for the last few days school shopping to prepare for the new academic year.
“While ensuring their children have all the necessary supplies, such as uniforms, stationery, and textbooks, I urge them to focus on essentials and prioritize quality over quantity,” Mr Goundar said.
“Remember, learning is not just about materials but also about creating an environment that fosters curiosity, discipline, and a positive mindset.”

Back-to-School support
Earlier this month the Minister of Education, Aseri Radrodro announced the early payment of the $200 Back-to-School support.
Mr Radrodro believed that this early payment would assist all parents and guardians with ample time to prepare their children for the new academic year.
“This initiative aims to assist families with children enrolled in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Primary, and Secondary schools,” Mr Radrodro said.
“We believe that this support will help ease the financial burden on families and ensure that every student has the resources they need to succeed in the upcoming school year.”
The $200 Back-to-School support per child can be accessed by parents and guardians through the MPAiSA or MyCASH accounts and Post Fiji outlets.
The funds can be withdrawn or used virtually through digital wallets for the purchase of school items.
For those in maritime areas, the funds are available for collection at the nearest Post Fiji agency, upon presenting the child’s student ID as proof.
