A man charged with robbing FijiFirst party workers yesterday pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Osea Lawedua, 18, appeared before High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar.

It is alleged that on November 17, 2018, in Suva, Lawedua robbed four different complainants who were FijiFirst Party workers of their assorted items and cash.

State counsel Zenith Zunaid informed the court that the street mugging had involved about 30 to 40 people and there were four complainants in the matter.

He also informed the court that the alleged offence took place outside Suva City Carnegie Library between 4am and 5am.

He also told the court that the accused and others had specifically targeted three complainants in the matter.

Mr Zunaid said the eye witness had identified the accused out of all the persons in the street mugging offence.

He also told the court that the eye witness had identified the accused by the name of ‘Tevoro’ to which the accused had admitted to be known as in his caution interview.

The matter was adjourned for a pre-trial conference to March 1.

The accused has been further remanded in custody.
