Teenage girl pregnant after alleged abuse by stepfather, ODPP statistics show

A 41-year-old man accused of repeatedly raping his teenage stepdaughter, leaving her pregnant, was among 14 people charged with serious sexual offences last month, according to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
The ODPP's May 2026 rape and sexual offences statistics show that 14 indictments were filed in the High Court involving 43 counts of sexual offences.
The offences comprised 28 counts of rape, two counts of attempted rape and 13 counts of sexual assault.

Among the cases was an incident in which a 41-year-old man was charged with nine counts of rape of his 14-year-old stepdaughter. The alleged abuse began when the victim was eight years old in 2020. The victim is pregnant as a result of the alleged abuse.
The statistics reveal that nine of the 14 victims were under the age of 18 and that nine incidents involved victims and accused persons who were related to one another.
In another case, an 81-year-old man was charged with four counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault involving his 12-year-old granddaughter.
A 42-year-old man was charged with rape and sexual assault of his 11-year-old niece, while a 33-year-old man was charged with rape and four counts of sexual assault of his 13-year-old niece.
A 23-year-old man was charged with rape and sexual assault of his 14-year-old niece, while a 24-year-old man was charged with the attempted rape of his 28-year-old sister-in-law.
In separate incidents, a 34-year-old man was charged with rape and sexual assault of his 14-year-old cousin, while a 38-year-old man was charged with raping his 32-year-old cousin.
The ODPP also recorded cases involving victims outside family relationships.
A 70-year-old man was charged with three counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl. The accused was known to the family and was working with them at the time of the alleged offences.
In another case, a 30-year-old man was charged with raping a 23-year-old United States national, described as a work colleague, following a drinking session in 2025.
A total of 14 accused persons were charged during the month.
The ODPP reported there were 14 victims, including seven female victims and two male victims.
Two cases were discontinued after nolle prosequi applications were filed, one due to insufficient evidence and another after a victim admitted making a false complaint.
