Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo is set to be sworn in as Chief Justice today at the State House.

Sources confirmed the ceremony will commence at 10am at the State House.

Attempts to reach Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Attorney-General Graham Leung for comment were unsuccessful at the time of publication.

The appointment has drawn criticism due to Mr Temo's dual role as chairperson of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). The JSC recently faced scrutiny for its controversial recommendation of Barbara Malimali as FICAC Chief, a decision now under investigation by a Commission of Inquiry.

Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu issued a statement last night questioning the integrity of Government institutions and their leadership.

"Recent events within various institutions of government raise a key question: Where is the leadership?" Mr Seruiratu said.

He criticised the lack of accountability, particularly in independent institutions, and called for urgent reforms to restore good governance and institutional integrity.

"How independent are these independent institutes? To whom are they answerable and accountable? These key questions must be addressed if we are serious about governance," he said.

Mr Seruiratu emphasised that leaders must take responsibility rather than evade accountability.

"The absence of leadership has led to recent unfortunate events. People must know their limits and be guided by genuine leadership," he added.

The unfolding developments highlight growing concerns about the transparency and accountability of key appointments in Fiji's public institutions.
