Temporary 50% boost for social welfare recipients ends
The 50 per cent welfare top-up will not be extended, with payments reverting to normal rates in August 2026.

The Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection has confirmed the 50 per cent welfare top-up will not be extended, with payments reverting to normal rates from next month.
More than 130,000 recipients across six social protection programmes have received the boosted payments since late April as part of a $56 million Government response to the global fuel crisis.
"Yes, just for three months. August allowance reverts to normal rate recipients were receiving before the top up," the ministry said.

The confirmation comes as recipients await their next payout, due early next month, and ends months of uncertainty after Minister Sashi Kiran had said any extension depended on how the fuel crisis unfolded.
