The Fiji Girmit Council (FGC) is anticipating a grand celebration to mark the 144th Girmit Day anniversary.

The council said the announcement made last week by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka on the reinstatement of the Girmit Day public holiday starting this year was the “best reward” for Indo-Fijians.

Council national secretary Selwa Nandan said their members were thrilled by the announcement describing it as the “best reward” to Girmitiya ancestors.
