Ratu Naulu Mataitini was traditionally installed as the Vunivalu of Nukunitabua at Lomanikoro Village, Rewa, on Friday.

Ratu Naulu is the son of the late Vunivalu of Nukunitabua, Ro Epeli Mataitini, who died in 2020.

Prior to the traditional installation on Friday, a church service was held at the Ratu Josaia Methodist Church at Lomanikoro where the newly installed Vunivalu was blessed by the President of the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma, Reverend Ili Vunisuwai.

Ratu Naulu was then traditionally installed by the Yavusa Vasu in the veivakagunuvi (installation) ceremony.

Speaking on behalf of Ratu Naulu, spokesperson (matanivanua) Joseva Muasobu said the common understanding was that the Roko Tui Dreketi was the Vunivalu and the Vunivalu e Nukunitabua was something new when it has been an ancient practice.
