The Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad, has addressed ongoing concerns regarding unpaid teachers and delayed payments for newly posted educators.

Yesterday, he made it clear that the issues were not because of lack of resources or budget, but rather administrative delays.

“There is no shortage of funding, there is no shortage of budget,” Mr Prasad said.

“The Ministry of Education is fully equipped to address this issue. The responsibility lies with those in Human Resources (HR), Finance, and those who have been offered appointments to ensure that the paperwork is processed and payments are made on time.”

Mr Prasad emphasised that the Ministry of Education must ensure that when teachers were appointed, all necessary documentation, including contracts, be completed prior to their classroom assignments.

This would ensure that teachers were paid promptly.

“The Ministry of Education should make sure that when the appointment is done, it’s done with all the paperwork and contracts signed before teachers get into the classroom, so they can be paid,” he said.

Mr Prasad’s comments came in response to questions about the ongoing issue of unpaid teachers, including those who have been on acting positions for weeks and not receiving their allowances.
