Fiji has recorded three fire-related fatalities so far this year, according to the National Fire Authority (NFA).

Most recently, a 64-year-old man died in a house fire at Vunivau Paras Point in Labasa.

NFA chief executive officer Puamau Sowane said preliminary investigations indicate the Wednesday fire is believed to have started in the living room area, with the likely cause linked to an electrical fault.

Mr Sowane expressed grave concern over the incident, noting that electrical faults have been the leading cause of fires over the past three years.

A joint investigation with Police is underway.

Members of the public are urged to call 910 for fire emergencies.
