A Savusavu businessman says 10 years of hard work has been dealt a devastating blow after three heavy machines worth an estimated $750,000 were allegedly set on fire at a worksite in Naveria on Sunday night.
Precast Fiji Pte Limited owner Vijay Raj said two excavators and a dump truck were destroyed in the incident, which occurred at a worksite about three kilometres from his home in Korovesi.
Mr Raj said the suspected arson happened around 7pm and that neighbours living near the site alerted him to the fire.

The loss has come as a major setback for the civil engineering contractor, who said building the business had taken years of sacrifice and investment.
“We immediately contacted the National Fire Authority (NFA) and Fiji Police Force to investigate, and they assured me yesterday that investigations had begun,” Mr Raj said.

Mr Raj said it had taken him 10 years of hard work to establish the company and acquire the machinery needed to support its operations.
In an effort to identify those responsible, he has offered a reward for information.
“I have announced on social media a $1000 reward for anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest of the person responsible.”
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that a joint investigation involving the Fiji Police Force and the National Fire Authority is underway.
Authorities are continuing investigations into the cause of the fire.
