Three ministers to meet next week
The unions have cited that Professor Ahluwalia lacked good governance when it came to staff welfare.

Three Cabinet Ministers will convene a special meeting next week to discuss the situation at the University of the South Pacific (USP) Laucala Bay Campus.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro, who is on a ministerial tour of the Lau Group, told the media his intention of such a meeting.
The University Staff and Support Staff Union (USPU) and the Association of USP Staff (AUSPS) obtained a mandate on Wednesday for a strike to remove the university’s Vice-Chancellor and president, Professor Pal Ahluwalia.

The union’s vote in a secret ballot revealed that more than 90 per cent of members supported Professor Ahluwalia’s dismissal.
The Ministry of Employment, Productivity, and Industrial Relations oversaw the secret ballot.
More than 550 people have signed up as members.

Meeting
Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Agni Deo Singh, and Minister for Finance Biman Prasad will be part of this meeting with Mr Radrodro.
“I have requested the permanent secretary to organize the agenda for the meeting,” Mr Radrodro said.
“Upon my return to Suva next week, we’ll be convening a meeting with the three Ministers.
“Minister for Labour, Deputy Prime Minister Prasad and myself will discuss the situation at USP.”
