Three Questioned Over Nadi River Body Find

Three people had been questioned over a body found floating in the Narewa River in Nadi last Friday.

Police said investigations continued after the discovery of Misaele Laweloa’s body.

His mother Lusiana Navuni, 51, said the late Mr Laweloa had wanted to be a mechanical engineer.

Ms Navuni, last saw her son last Wednesday at about 6pm.

“He was on his way to work, but had to return home. He then went to meet his uncle who was in Nadi Town,” she said.

Ms Navuni said the uncle wanted to meet him.

“When he left home, he did not utter a word. I am still in shock of what happened to him.

“I had hopes in him because he wanted to be a mechanical engineer after school.”

Mr Laweloa’s former classmate at Tavua College, Isimeli Dalituicama Waqa, 24, said they last met during the festive season in Tavua.

They were part of the Tavua College U19 side that won the 2019 Fiji Secondary Schools Football Association IDC in Ba.

“He (Misaele) was a bright science student and a good football player,” Mr Waqa said.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said three people had been questioned at the Nadi Police Station following the discovery of Mr Laweloa’s body.

“The three are believed to have been with the victim before his death,” Ms Naisoro said.

“The victim was identified by his sister.

“A post-mortem was conducted to confirm the cause of death and the investigation continues.”
