The Minister for Health and Medical Services kept his promise of supplying immediate medical supply to Rabi and Taveuni islands last week.

In February, Dr Atonio Lalabalavu toured the North, where he visited health centres on the islands.

Most of the problems identified were the scarcity of crucial medicines and medical equipment for patients on the islands.

During his visit, Dr Lalabalavu promised that his senior medical teams would attend to the islands’ request.

“Rabi, straight after we left, the team immediately looked at everything that was needed,” Dr Lalabalavu said.

“There is an ongoing commitment within the ministry to improve our medical infrastructure and smooth supply of medicine.”

Dr Lalabalavu said there was a continuous supply of medical equipment and medicine around the country for divisional, sub-divisional, health centres and nursing centres which they had identified as much-needed supplies.

Rabi Health Centre senior medical officer Dr Jone Turaga acknowledged the minister’s pro-active action in addressing their medical needs. The centre has medicine and water problems.

Dr Turaga said a fusion pump was supplied to help solve their water problems
