If you’ve heard the endless rhythm of the tin bands around in your community, you know that they spreading the New Year spirit.

But for the Washington Tin Band group from Lami in Viti Levu, it goes beyond that.

Part of the money they earn from their performances is going towards towards education assistance for their primary and secondary crew and the remaining for their party.

The group is in the Northern Division to fulfil their mission. They were in Labasa on Wednesday and hope to go to Savsavu and Taveuni.

Band leader, Mosese Uluinavitilevu, said they played in Viti Levu and finally decided to head to Vanua Levu to experience the warmth of the people.

They performed at Labasa Town on Wednesday and a day later, entertained villagers at Namara, Labasa.

“We will continue performing for a couple of days before we return to Lami,” Mr Uluinavitilevu said.

Mr Uluinavitilevu said they arrived in Vanua Levu with hardly any food or much cash, only with optimism and believe that God would provide for their needs.

Firs time in Labasa

The entire team are first-timers to Vanua Levu or the Northern Division.

They started their tin band group in 2017 and performed initially for their community in Waigasa, Lami.

“We became viral on social media, so we decided to move out to towns to perform,” Mr Uluinavitilevu indicated.

They plan to complete their performances within the two weeks of this month.
