Fiji Public Trustee Corporation help fund make-over

More than 50 students at the Penang Sangam Kindergarten in Rakiraki now have a proper learning environment.

The school yesterday opened its newly built classroom, worth over $13,000. This initiative came about through the collaboration of the Fiji Public Trustee Corporation (FPTC) and the school management.

While speaking during the opening of the new classroom FPTC Board chairperson Ikbal Jannif acknowledged Government’s ‘Adopt a School Programme’ policy, through which his organisation was able to provide assistance.

Mr Jannif said there was a need to promote equality and he was pleased to see the children at the kindergarten putting it into practice.

“The rebuilding of the kindergarten was possible through the government initiative; adopt a school which they have put in place and for the corporation this is the first project that we have done in this manner and this success will allow us to look at other projects,” he said.

“Our Government has recognised that education is one of the main pillars in the advancement of their assistance which is indeed unprecedented.

“Looking at the students at the kindergarten I see the various policies for education being put into practice and children from different ethnicity together and learning together.

“Being an optimist I see light at the end of the tunnel and we need to promote this type of behavior and philosophy in our current curriculum.”

Headteacher Rajesh Kumar said they were indebted to the Fiji Public Trustee Corporation for their support adding that the children would now have access to the basic education needed, that is, a proper classroom.

“We are very much grateful and indebted to the FPTC for their generous donation to help rebuild our classroom. Now the students are able to have the much needed basic education requirement which is their classroom,” he said.
