Police investigations into the recent major drug hauls in Nadi have taken a new twist with Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew revealing new leads.

He said some high-profile individuals with authority and some high ranking police officers had been suspected to be part of the drug ring.

He made those comments as investigations into the two-drug major busts in Nadi continued.

Police discovered three tonnes of methamphetamine at a vacant house in Legalega and 1.1 tonnes found at a vacant concrete house at Maqalevu.

“Investigations are ongoing in the drug bust cases. This drug trade has been there for some time over the years,” he said.

“There is a possibility that more drugs are still out there, and we are encouraging people who have information to please pass them to police.

“As investigations continue, we will come to know how these drugs entered Fiji. As per these cases, few individuals have also been arrested as suspects, and once charges are laid against them, their names will be revealed.”
