Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Chew is assuring every Fijians that all complaints against Police officers will be investigated.

This was in response to the allegations made by Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre coordinator Shamima Ali that there were cover ups when senior Police officers sexually harass younger female officers.

“Our counsellors have been screamed at and told they will be put behind bars. Reports go missing,” Ms Ali claimed.

Mr Chew said it was important to be transparent.

He invites Ms Ali to report these matters if she has information about such practices, so they could be investigated.

“Police officers are investigated, either by the internal affairs or Criminal Investigations Department if criminal in nature, where the files are sent to the Office of the DPP for independent legal advice,” Mr Chew said.

“We have been transparent about it, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions issues monthly statistics where Police officers have been charged and are made public.

“We are serious about rebuilding confidence in the policing profession and recognise that it can only be done effectively if we are upholding the ethics and integrity of policing, and such allegations must be verified through an investigation, as it impacts ongoing efforts of Restoring Blue.”
