Top UN human rights Pacific rep meets Minister Seruiratu

Minister for Defence and National Security, Inia Seruiratu.

The Minister for Defence, National Security and Foreign Affairs, Inia Seruiratu, received a courtesy call recently from the Regional Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in the Pacific, Chitralekha Massey.

Mr Seruiratu welcomed Ms Massey at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Suva and reaffirmed the country’s com­mitment to strengthen collaboration with OHCHR in advancing Fiji’s human rights development initiatives and programmes here.

Ms Massey also congratulated Mr Se­ruiratu for his appointment as Minister for Foreign Affairs. She also acknowledged the country’s continued engagement, both re­gionally and internationally, to enhance hu­man rights advocacy.

She also commended Fiji for its recogni­tion and representation as the member of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to advance human rights protec­tion.

As such the OHCHR has pledged greater support for our historic journey and com­mitment as member of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
