Shazreen Zaena Bibi a nurse by profession wants to be an agent for change in her society.

Ms Bibi, 24, won the Youth of the Year award at the inaugural Nakasi Youth Club awards night in Nadi recently.

Originally from Cakaudrove, she has undertaken a lot of roles in her club.

“I joined the club and have taken part in various important climate change projects,” Ms Bibi said.

“This includes planting mangroves and recently we did a cleanup campaign at the Nadi health center. We need to help those in need and combat climate change too,” she said.

“I am involved because it is about education and empowering young minds, strengthening society, and ensuring that future generations are well-equipped with the mental and emotional resilience to navigate this ever-evolving world.

“Let’s punch above our weight in whatever small things we do to inspire those around us.”

Former Nadi Town Council special administrator Lawrence Kumar officiated the event.

“All will agree that society encounters daily issues of drugs, substance abuse, youth vandalism, and the worrying trend of failure passing rates in schools,” Mr Kumar said.

“To combat it, Fiji surely needs the next generation of leaders in a big way,” he said.

“We need brighter minds put into action to support the development of the young generation of Fijians for a brighter future.

“There has been a lot being said, by our national leaders with long discussions within and externally on various programmes, funding of pilot projects, and introduction of schemes but these seem to be stagnant.”

He added a club with its mission and vision will not fail the next generation but prepare them well.
