The trial into the alleged murder of a pregnant woman at a Suva apartment last April is set to begin today.

Apisai Madigibuli, who is charged with one count of murder, appeared before Justice Dane Tuiqereqere at the High Court in Suva yesterday, hoping the trial would commence.

However, the matter was adjourned to today following a request by Madigibuli’s lawyer, Timoci Varinava, who asked for time to review the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) report, which was only served to the defence by the prosecution yesterday.

State prosecutor Monisha Naidu told the court that the report had just been received from Police last Friday. She apologised to the court and confirmed that the State would be relying on the DNA report during the trial.

Madigibuli’s production order was extended.
