The late Pauliasi Namulo Rokowaqa was a trusted employee of the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) his funeral service was told yesterday.

Delivering a eulogy for the FCS, Head of the Engineering Section, Iowane Nabulivou  said  as an attachee, Mr Rokowaqa was trusted at all times.

This was the reason Mr Rokowaqa was given the key to their store that housed millions of dollars worth of equipment.

He died after a Nadi nightclub brawl.

Before his untimely death Mr Nabulivou said Mr Rokowaqa had been an attachee with the FCS for a year, two months and 18 days.

Mr Nabulivou was speaking on behalf of the FCS Commissioner Francis Kean, who was also at the church service at the Navuloa Methodist Church at Nakasi.

He said Mr Rokowaqa had a certificate in Building & Civil Engineering and that was why they had employed him as an attachee.

Mr Nabulivou said Mr Rokowaqa was involved in the construction of the new Labasa Prison wall as well as the Lautoka Prison wall.

Speaking on behalf of the Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF) of the Lautoka Coronation Church, Mr Ovini Tuitata said the late Mr Rokowaqa was a very humble man.

“He was not as stranger to anyone and would do any work that was there to be done,” Mr Tuitata said.

He said because of his humility and friendliness, the Lautoka Coronation Church paid for all their expenses to be at the church service and funeral.

“We sorely miss a faithful and friendly man,” he said.

Mr Rokowaqa’s  mother, Kalesi Marama, finally accepted that his son was dead when she saw her coffin.

Mr Rokowaqa’s fiancee, Rusila Uluilakeba, a third-year degree student in Human Resources and Tourism at the University of the South Pacific, said she had accepted that he would not be there when she graduated in September and there would be no wedding as planned.

Mr Rokowaqa was laid to rest at the Nasinu Cemetery.
