A family of seven at Block 10 Naodamu in Labasa are still reeling from the wrath of Cyclone Ana.

Semi Macawa, 20, said their family had not expected that the flooding would be more severe than what they had experienced in 2003 and 2007.

Mr Macawa said it all happened so quickly on Sunday morning when rising waters flooded their compound.

“We quickly stacked the electrical appliances on the higher shelf and packed some clothes, beddings and food and headed to the nearest evacuation centre,” Mr Macawa said.

“It was not long that the water level had risen and entered our house because it was high tide as well.

“Fortunately, it was daylight and that made it possible for us to carry the little ones to the evacuation centre.”

Mr Macawa and the family have returned to their home.

The only thing they found undamaged was one suitcase and their 45-inch flat screen television.

Meanwhile, there was no water flowing through their taps to clean up their home.
