Tropical Cyclone Expected To Form Later This Week

The Fiji Meteorological Service says a significant low pressure is expected to develop over the far north of Fiji later this week.
The low-pressure system has a high chance of developing into a tropical cyclone, said a statement from the Fiji Met Office.
The statement said that the weather for Christmas should be fine but was expected to deteriorate as Fiji headed towards the weekend.

“The weather forecasting models are in arrangement of developing the low into a tropical cyclone but has some differences on the forecast track,” the statement said.
“The most possible track will be determined in the next 72 hours as the low moves closer to the group.”
The Meteorological Office has also warned mariners of strong winds as early as Boxing Day as the system moves closer to Fiji.

The Na Draki Weather commercial forecasting service said yesterday: “The next update will be at 8am tomorrow, following which advisory messages will increase as the threat to Fiji becomes clearer with the physical formation of the tropical disturbance predicted to develop.”
