Father of two Sushil Chand thought he would die when Tropical Cyclone Yasa lifted his living room with him inside, carried him for 50 metres before it dumped him.
The 61-year-old farmer from Lovelove, Macuata, yesterday recounted his ordeal from the hospital saying he is lucky to be alive.
“I was literally airborne and it was pitch black. I could not see anything as I sailed through the air. It happened so fast that I had no idea how long I was in the air,” Mr Chand said.

“With the use of a torch they managed to see me and carried me to the nearby temple where we all stayed until morning,” he said.
“The next day the road was cleared and I was able to go to the hospital.”
“My hip is dislocated and I would probably have to go for an operation.”
Although the cyclone has completely damaged Mr Chand’s 12-bedroom house he is grateful to still be alive with his family.
