Background

She gave birth to four healthy children while living with HIV, and today, they remain HIV-free.
Ms Tuberi yesterday shared why she chose to disclose her HIV status.
“I wanted to give a face to the epidemic and advocate for treatment. At that time, there was no treatment available in Fiji. Our voices helped bring about change,” she said.
Stigma
Despite her bravery, Ms Tuberi continues to face challenges, especially when it comes to changing people’s attitudes.
“The stigma and discrimination still exist,” she said.
“Changing the mindset of society is still a challenge.”
However, Ms Tuberi has found strength in her family’s support. It has been a key part of her journey.
“Disclosure is personal and everyone has their own timing. For me, sharing my story has allowed me to advocate for others and show that HIV doesn’t stop you from living your dreams.”
Her message to women: “Take your treatment and live your life. HIV should not stop you from achieving your dreams.”
