Newly-installed Tui Nayau Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara has called on the vanua o Nayau to uphold unity and compassion as they move forward together.

Speaking after his traditional installation at Narocivo Village yesterday, Ratu Tevita expressed deep gratitude to all who contributed and witnessed the sacred ceremony.

He acknowledged the presence of religious leaders from the Catholic and Methodist churches, the Masi ni Vanua o Nayau, and the many who had travelled from near and far to be part of the historic occasion.

“I thank all the masi ni vanua o Nayau who are here, and everyone who came to witness this installation. You’ve all seen how sacred and beautiful this occasion is,” Ratu Tevita said.

Ratu Tevita emphasised that the Tui Nayau title is not merely an honour, but a solemn duty that demands strength, humility, and service.

“This chiefly title comes with responsibility,” he said.

“You’ve seen how sacred this installation is and the challenges we’ve faced in reaching this day.”

Addressing the traditional leaders who serve under the Tui Nayau, he urged them to serve their people with unity and selflessness.

“Please look after the people in your tribes. Serve them with love and unity. Let us care for one another. Don’t think only of yourself, but of those around you.”

He also praised the vanua o Nayau for the strength and unity they demonstrated throughout the installation process.

The Tui Nayau title was last held by the late Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara, Ratu Tevita’s father, until his passing in 2004. The position has been vacant for 21 years.
