It will be a significant occasion for the people of Naitasiri, as its paramount chief, the Turaga Na Qaranivalu, Ratu Inoke Takiveikata, who was released from imprisonment last December, will attend the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) meeting this week.

The two-day meeting, scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, will convene at the Lagoon Resort at Pacific Harbour.

Ratu Inoke was sentenced for life in 2011, with a non-parole term of eight years for his conviction of inciting mutiny in 2000 at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua. His release last year has been a source of relief and jubilation for his family and the province of Naitasiri.

In preparation for the meeting, a source confirmed that Roko Tui Naitasiri, Ratu Ravuama Nakaiwalu, visited Ratu Inoke at his residence at Navuso last month to confirm the invitation to the GCC meeting.

Speaking to a family member who wished to remain anonymous, it’s clear that Ratu Inoke’s return has been profoundly moving for the community.
