Two Fijians have died after an alleged stabbing in Sydney’s north-west early yesterday morning, Australian media reported.
Anaseini Waqavuki, 38, was found dead inside a home in Quakers Hill, while her partner, 30, later died in hospital from stab wounds, according to 9 News Sydney.
Police said Waqavuki was allegedly stabbed inside the house, while her partner was found injured on the footpath outside with wounds to his hands and stomach.
Neighbours rushed to help him and contacted emergency services. He was taken to Liverpool Hospital, where he later died.
A 47-year-old man, believed to be Waqavuki’s former partner, allegedly stabbed the pair before handing himself in to police.
He has been charged with two counts of murder, was denied bail and is due to face court today.
New South Wales Police Superintendent Jason Joyce described the incident as traumatic.
“It was a very traumatic incident,” Superintendent Joyce said.
“Very sad in terms of the time of the year, and my sympathy goes out to the family.
“It was also very confronting for police and emergency services who attended.”
Neighbours told 9 News they heard screams from the home in the early hours of the morning but were shocked by what later unfolded.
Police are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
